After a disappointing first weekend of results Great Totham 1’s were looking to lead the way and grab the club it’s first win, but with the predicted forecast it seemed that everyone may have to wait another week.
Many thanks must go to the panel umpires for “getting the game on” when early on I think both teams would have been happy get home and out of the rain.
Totham won the toss and deputising captain Paul Marks chose to bowl on the basis of the rain came later on it would be highly unlikely Totham would have a negative result.
The openers responded to this with a fantastic spell of swing and seam bowling.
Joe Smoker (2-23) and Sam Bowen (4-13) with great follow up from Cheeseman (2-6) Mays (1-7) and Baron (1-26) who never let their foot off the gas and blew Writtle away who could only muster a well under par 88.
There was still a job to do for the batsmen and Josh Chadwick set out to get the job done. With 2 wickets falling early The 3rd wicket stand between Chadwick and Marks was slow and maybe not the greatest cricket to watch but brought Totham within 20 of the total. Chadwick hit the winning run and finished on (30*) just in time for the heavens to open and the downpour that followed would have finished any fixture off!!
Many Thanks to our match day sponsor Mr Tommy Hawkridge
