Springfield vs Great Totham T20
A rearranged Sunday fixture meant Springfield were to host Totham on a Monday evening in a T20! Despite only having six players at the time of the toss Captain Fantastic Chadwick decided to bowl first (to the disappointment of his players, never doubt Captain Fantastic Chadwick!).
Totham started the game with 9 in the field, this didn’t affect them too much though. Birthday boy George Baron and Nick Halls tight bowling meant Springfield got off to a slow start and lost a couple of wickets. On came Sam Bowen, bowling a brilliant four overs, only going for 21 runs and getting a wicket. The highlight of the game came in one of Bowen’s overs, a ball skied towards Mutton…. dropped, a ball hit towards Mutton… dropped, a ball leathered towards Mutton… dropped! Three drops in one over, what a player. Despite the drops Mutton bowled a good two overs, getting two wickets. Cheeseman bowled very well from the other end, only going for 18 runs and getting one wicket.. Of course, Chadwick Senior had to have a bowl, being the best all-rounder in the club, getting a wicket by beating the batsmen for pace before he could get through his reverse sweep. Baron and Halls finished up, Springfield managed to get a few boundaries here by playing aggressively, but Captain Fantastic still took a phenomenal catch at long-off. Springfield finished on 139-6. It should be mentioned that Logue (w/k) could’ve got a few stumpings if he learns not to throw the ball over the stumps when going for a stumping (perhaps he was aiming for the bowlers end?).
Although it was Baron’s birthday and he was meant to open the batting, Totham actually had a chance of winning so it was decided it was best not to do this. Cooper and Dicko, the Chairman, opened up, Dicko admired his seven runs before getting caught out. In came Nick Halls, batting very nicely for his 16, only to fall as the Chairman did before him. Captain Fantastic came in at four, getting a boundary with his first ball, ending up on 12 before charging down a spinner he couldn’t hit and getting stumped whilst a metre out of his crease. Mutton came in at five, playing the sensible game, ending up with 11*, all in singles (such entertainment). Cooper fell next after a quick 50, getting the team into a winning position! Chadwick Senior came in at six, batting nicely for his 11 before planting his pad in front of the stumps and giving the umpired no choice but to give him out plumb LBW. Sam Bowen was in at seven, although Bowen tried to play for the draw by playing out the first maiden of the game, he was bowled for 2. In comes the birthday boy, getting dropped on his first ball but going on to win the game with a four, followed by six!
A great win for the Sunday/Monday team, beating a team above them in the league! Everyone apart from Pearson contributed, so overall a brilliant team performance!
