Looking to make it 4 in a row and establish a serious challenge for the title in division 1, Great Totham travelled to Springfield in great form.
Skipper Harry Cooper won the toss and decided to bowl which was looking to be a dubious decision after the first 3 overs of the Springfield’s innings with the hosts 30 without loss with Joe Smokers left foot being the main source of runs.
Sam Bowen put a lid on the run scoring from one end and Will Simpson from the other slowed the runs down so the home team were 55 from 10 overs.
Bowen made the break through with a great out swinging delivery which got the edge and sent the Springfield opener back to the hutch. Simpson pulled up lame (again) so Ollie Cheeseman took over, coming up the hill and topped last weeks 5for with 6-20 in a fantastic spell of bowling, which left Springfield in tatters only managing to muster 135.
In reply, captain Cooper got GTCC off to a flyer (35) but with the middle order faltering it was down to the forever young Barry Mays (28*)and the underestimated Rob Mutton(23*) with a unbroken 50 run partnership to see the game out 5 wickets down.
Next week GT host bottom of the league Rayleigh and nothing but a win would be acceptable in the push for promotion.
