MATCH REPORT: 2nd XI v Willow Herbs - 13/05/2023

14 May 2023

On a gloomy, but crucially dry Saturday, pigeon’s mighty 2s made the trip to Willow Herbs looking to supercharge a promotion push.

Upon arrival however, the 2s fine athletes may have felt they were in the wrong place with a football match taking place just meters away from the square, the second half kicking off minutes before play was due to begin.

More C words than Yeatsey after 12 in the bull - the football was pure entertainment but by no means sport. Shout out to one of the gaffers, kitted out head to toe in a PSG tracksuit (jump man socks included). With the home team eventually wrapping up a victory the 100-strong crowd filtered into the bar, likely to get behind the home team on the cricket pitch now.

Village football over, now time for some village cricket? Wrong. What followed was world class from the Totham attack. Winning the toss and bowling, Jess and DK got the team off to a flyer. Accurate bowling, combined with a funky pitch and energetic fielding (I’m as shocked as you are) saw Totham rip into Willow Herbs. Jess took two and DK perhaps hard done by to just get 1. Murphy entered the attack and his bowling is best summed up by Genaro Gattuso (if you know, you know). Regardless, two very good wickets to add to the tally, both well snaffled by Patrick with the gloves.

Next up, enter Rhino, who blew away the tail, taking an excellent 5fer, swinging the ball with ease under the cloud and bamboozling the tail. Rhino poorly supported by Owen who bowled a couple Of overs of drag downs. Ed also got an over in before Rhino finished the job.

Herbs bowled for 59 and Patrick making history (first recorded incidence of 5 dismissals by a keeper) it was a good start to the afternoon.

Tea skipped, the team had the Bull in their sights. Despite Rhino making way for an early duck, Phipps and Patrick saw the Oak Trees home with ease - Patrick finishing the job with a huge 6.

Plenty of TFC’s floating about this week but who cares when you get such a gargantuan win.

Tea - a minimalist affair after the game, but good sausage rolls.

Big Os player to watch - DK, the man will be in the wickets this year.
