2nd XI v South Loughton 1st XI
Waking up to bright skies for the first time in what seemed like years, members of the 2s would no doubt have let out a feeble groan knowing that they would definitely be heading down the long road to south Loughton. A delightful part of the world that looks it’s best in grey weather, the boys were in for a treat. Getting stuck in traffic just outside the ground, the fellas showed up to the wide open park just on time. Someone won the toss and Totham were batting. Stu and JC opened up, the latter going early to a sharp grab at slip. The skip and Phippsy batted nicely until Stu was run out and what followed was a constant stream of wickets as bad cricket took over proceedings. A mixture of ropey shots and poor running and Totham were out for 67 despite Phipps’ best efforts to haul us close to 100.
Despite the bun display thus far, the lads were somewhat positive at tea, confident the minefield of a pitch could help us back into the game. As Owen tucked into a giant bag of crisps, Kendall used tea as the perfect time to get his application in for a job at the South Loughton tourist board describing the area as a “hell hole”. I can see it on a postcard now - “South Loughton, a hell hole that’s not quite as bad as you think”
Back to the cricket and hot wheels was the star with the ball, giving us some hope as he had various batsmen jumping around the crease. Issey took the ugliest wicket ever with a gorgeous drag down as South Loughton ticked on in pursuit of the total, losing just 2 wickets.
So ultimately a pretty rough day, the 2s taking home just one point.
Still with the exceedingly strong selection this week, we can hope to at least double that tally.
Only joking - we’re going to smash them up #16PointsBabyyyyy
