Indoor team v Writtle, Cup Final 15.03.20

The final arrives & Gt.Totham are keen to finish the season with a 100% record. John wins the toss again & decides to bowl first. We know that Writtle will be formidable opposition & we will have to restrict them to below 100 to have a chance.

First 2 overs are good, c & b for Cheesey, an economical start for Pooky. But, Writtle start to be more aggressive & start to score more quickly. Gt.Totham field well, giving nothing away. Another wicket for Cheesey, getting out the dangerous Writtle skipper. Then Banny bowls as shocker which is blasted straight to Pooky for another wicket. John takes a c & b off the ceiling, Writtle are now struggling, a wicket for Pooky & Cheesey finishes off an excellent bowling performance as John claims his 2nd catch of the game & the season.

Writtle 101 all out, well within Gt.Totham's reach.

The top quality openers, Joshua & Nick open up & are both back on the balcony at 11-2. Writtle are ecstatic at these 2 wickets & for the first time this season Gt.Totham are not in command after a few overs. Pooky & Banny start to develop a good partnership, putting on about 20 runs, until Banny is caught out. Pooky tells the team he has a groin injury, but got no offers of a rub down. John comes in to bat, following a semi-final appearance in which he did not actually hit the ball!. For the first time this season John actually remembered how to bat & with Pooky the score moved forward just about in line with the run rate. Pooky retired, John & Cheesey kept the score ticking over by running well & taking no chances. John retired (first time this season) & Pooky returned. With Cheesey & Pooky batting really well the game slowly slipped away from Writtle. Pooky hit the walls for 3s & Cheesey walked down the wicket to claim 2s with the famous defensive wall shot. John was on the balcony trying to recover from so much running, praying that neither batsmen was out. Final over 10 to win, allowing Gt.Totham to finish the game off with one ball to spare, applauded by a big crowd on the balcony.

A brilliant end to a season which saw a 100% record in Cup & League. Lots of trophies later Gt.Totham shake hands & have a victory photo.

Well done to all who played in Cup or League - Nick, Joshua, Pooky, Drew, Cheesey, George & Banny.
