Playing at Anglo-European school, the indoor team took on Writtle. After the confusion of where to park & how to get in, the team assembled. Skipper John Chadwick, again, started brilliantly by allowing the opposition to win the toss & decide to do exactly what we wanted!
Issey Croft opened the bowling, improving on last week's performance & taking his first indoor wicket. All bowling was good for most of the time & runs were kept down. John Chadwick managed one miraculous piece of fielding by juggling the ball at least 5 times before finally dropping it & falling over in one smooth action. Team mates were sympathetic, except bowler James Pook, who cursed the skipper for costing him a wicket. James Hay also showed more control & collectively the team restricted Writtle to 103.
Joshua Chadwick & Nick Phillips opened up & were not troubled. Nick Phillips scored a rapid 25, then retired to allow James Pook to score a similarly rapid 30. By this point Joshua Chadwick was just about in double figues, confusing indoor & test cricket. John Chadwick continued his fine game by playing & missing 4 times in one over, ignoring advice from his son, then falling to a top edge (at least he made contact!). Issey Croft came in to finish off the game with some sensible batting, giving Great Totham their first victory of the indoor season. With the top 3 batting so well the lower order batsmen were not under pressure.
Next week, Woodham Mortimer & the return of Olly Cheeseman.
