The intrepid indoor team continued its season against high-flying Wickford, who are in another league to Gt.Totham (literally).
John lost the toss once more, but we were in the field, which is what we would have done anyway, so it didn't matter.
John opened up, Jamie bowled his 3 overs & Joe bowled 2 of his. At the halfway stage Wickford had scored a few for not many wickets, Joshua had taken a catch from Joe, but other batsmen were retiring. Sam joined in the bowling & John continued. By the end we had picked up 3 wickets with 3 catches, 2 for Nick & Wickford had scored 125, so we were in with a chance.
Joe & Nick opened & were doing for a few balls until Nick went for a quick single & was given out by the umpire who was looking elsewhere when the ball hit the wickets. Nick vented his frustration for all to hear. Joshua came in & was going well with Joe until Joe dollied a catch to a close fielder & then Joshua was run out (at least the umpire was looking at this one!).
John & Sam were in & John didn't last long, so Jamie joined Sam at the crease, 37 for 4, pretty humiliating. Then the best part of the game took place. Sam & Jamie batted really well, hitting some boundaries & running well. They continued until the final ball when Sam was run out for 27, leaving Jamie undefeated on 30.
96 wasn't a bad recovery, well done to the 2 bowlers who saved our blushes.
Next week is Writtle, who are in a similar position to us, so we might do better .........
