After defeating Hutton in the cup recently, the Indoor team faced them again, in the league. The selection committee dropped Drew (again!) & brought in debutant Harry Banyard. John actually won the toss, but it had been so long since winning one he had to ask what to do next. Team decision was to bat. Joshua & Nick made a great start, quickly getting to 50, when Joshua retired. Pooky & Harry didn't last too long & John came in to bat, then Nick retired, bringing Cheesey in. Usually this batting combination signals some interseting running between the wickets. However, at 60-2 off 6 overs there was no rush. John managed to defend so well that there was no need to run anything, so no chance of a run-out. Eventually, John tired of defending & set about attacking the young lad on the opposition who is finding his way in the game. Three 6s later, job done. Poor lad is demoralised & John retires for the first time this season. Joshua & Nick returned to slog away, finishing on a respectable 139.
Cheesey & Pooky opened the bowling & at 7-1, opener LBW to Cheesey, off 2 overs Great Totham were in control. Harry & John bowled the next 6 overs. Harry had a bit of trouble adjusting to the indoor game, but he bowled some very good deliveries in his 3 overs. Pooky claimed a run out. John's first ball was a cracker, it had everything needed to deceive the batsman - no pace whatsoever, down legside & tempting. Sadly, the batsman played the ball onto the wickets. Pooky took a good catch to give John another wicket. Then Great Totham relaxed too much, poor fielding & some wayward throwing causing at least 2 missed chances for run outs. But, Cheesey & Pooky retruned to finish off the innings, with Cheesey claiming another victim, bowled out, & the game finished with a 57 run victory.
Next week sees the final league game of the season & the chance to end the season with a 100% record.
