The indoor team managed to get enough players thanks to Joe's mate Jim, having had to forfeit the last game due to only having 4 players.
John won the toss & chose to bowl, with Joe & Pooky opening up, followed by Jim. All was ok, no wickets but not too many runs. John came on to bowl & showed why he plays for the 3s in the summer, as the run rate accelerated & boundaries, wides & 3s were commonplace.
Nick took a good catch (yes!) off Jim & then John redeemed himself with some fine fielding, swooping like a gazelle (or a wounded bambi) on 2 occasions to run out batsmen. Pooky took a fine catch on the lights, ceiling, wall, lights again & the pipework. He also took 2 other catches. We did well to pull it back from a possible total in excess of 150 to restricting Broomhill to 130.
Nick & Joe opened the batting & the bowling was tight. Joe defended like test match cricket used to be. But, then, like England, he exploded into a frenzy of 6s & retired after 4 overs, with many dot balls to his name. Nick gave a simple catch after looking in no trouble at all. Pooky & Joshua were in now, running was risky to say the least, but the pressure on the fielders showed as the score climbed towards the target. Pooky was LBW, Jim came in & Joshua opened up with a series of 6s, bringing retirement.
Jim & John needed 25 in 3 overs with Joe & Joshua still to return. Jim was caught out & John was planning a Cheesy-type innings of tip & run. The bowling was tight & Joe was out first ball on his return. Joshua was dropped & the ball went for 4. Not many to win & John iw warned by the (everyone's favourite) umpire for not being ready when the bowler is ready to bowl!!!
The final over starts with 2 deliveries that were close/over/beyond the acceptable limits of a wide, but were not called, despite the looks on the facs of the fielders. Both father & son fall in quick succession, to lose by 10 runs.
A good game, which could have gone either way right until the end.
Next game is in January, when the outdoor season will be even closer.
