The undefeated Gt.Totham indoor team took on Woodham Mortimer hoping to continue their winning ways. When selection was announced Drew quickly replied with "Don't let me bowl". John won the toss & elected to bowl & (I'm the captain!) bowled himself first. For the first time this season Joshua had to bowl & his rustiness showed. Apart from a run out the fielding wasn't up to the usual standard, John missed a run out, Pooky dropped a catch & generally we were not on top form. The bowling did not restrict Woodham Mortimer greatly & they were on top for much of the innings despite wickets falling. Cheesey picked up 2, eveyone else got one. Woodham Mortimer finished on 131, the most we'd conceded all season.
Confident that we had the talent to win the game, ducks for Joshua & Drew decresed the confidence after a couple of overs. Nick & Pooky, however, steadied the ship & we slowly got back into the game. Both retired & the bowling of Woodham Mortimer proved too good, as John struggled to score, regularly finding the fielders with most shots. The run rate was rising, Cheesey & Nick had a massive task & couldn't get close, as we finished on 99. It's fair to say that the better team won, but a first defeat this season means that we are still in with a chance of getting promotion.
Next week it's Chelmsford Tigers, the final team to play for the first half of the season's fixtures. Hopefully, we can return to top form & not be Christmas turkeys.
