The penultimate game of the season saw the indoor team facing Woodham Mortimer, to whom we had lost earlier in the season. Due to Joshua's lateness in getting ready, John missed the toss, which Nick did, & we were batting. On the balcony, tailenders John & Cheesey chatted, "we can't be as bad as last week again, can we?". Well, actually, Nick running down the track & being stumped, Joshua striking straight to a fielder & Pooky hitting back to the bowler meant that we were doing as bad as last week!!
19 for 3!!!
John came in to pair up with Joe & wasn't out immediately, which helped the situation. Joe started to strike the ball well & John managed to hit a 6. This, as usual, went to his head & he tried the same shot a few balls later, yorking himself as the wickets were dismantled. Cheesey & Joe were left with about 7 overs to bat, with a fairly low score on the board.
A masterclass in batting from the pair moved the score on & frustrated Woodham Mortimer. Joe played classical straight drives & lofted a few 6s too. Cheesey played a viscous hook shot from a no ball, a reverse sweep/pull from a full toss & treated us all to his customary forward defensive/pad deflection whilst half way down the wicket. A superb partnership, Cheesey run out for 17 & Joe unbeaten on 67, got us to 123, a respectable total.
John & Pooky bowled through the first 6 overs. Pooky was very economical for 2 overs, John not so economical, but enticed a flick straight to Pooky's hands after the batsman had hit him for 6. Pooky hit the stumps direct, to run out the other opener & Woodham Mortimer were ok with the run rate, but had lost too many wickets.
Cheesey & Joe bowled the last 6 overs, as their batting partnership had been such a success, perhaps their bowling could do the same?
2 wickets apiece & 2 catches for Joe saw us home with a margin of 24. Even Nick managed to take a catch & didn't even fumble it once.
A good win to take us to the last game of the season, next Sunday, V Chelmsford Tigers
