Game 2 of the season saw unknown indoor opposition, South Weald. John actually won the toss, chose to bat, only to regret it 8 balls later, 11-2, Joshua & Nick both back on the balcony!! But, Pooky & Joe built a huge partnership, getting the team to 85 before Pooky was out for 24. Both played sensibly to get us out of a potential disaster. John & Cheesey took over when Joe retired, but John showed his age & lack of pace by getting run out, when trying to return to his crease after a bad decision to go for a single. Joe returned, was run out for 29, so Cheesey was left to finish off the innings. What followed was an exhibition of stroke play from a number 6 wannabe-opener. The whole of the Pooky's batting manual was used by Cheesey, including the reverse sweep. Really clever use of the walls got Cheesey to 23 not out. Final score 128, a great score after such a start.
John decided that lack of pace (as witnessed when running) was needed when bowling. His first ball deceived the opener, next ball for 3, next ball deceived the other opener, who lobbed it gently back to John. South Weald then got back into the game, but were always behind the run rate. The South Weald captain played very well, retiring at 25 & then Great Totham sensibly kept the run rate down without taking any wickets. Tight bowling by all, Pooky & Joe getting wickets, & good fielding, including a run out & 3 catches, ensured that South Weald were all out for 86.
Another fine win for Great Totham, 2 from 2. Upminster in a fortnight.
