Totham 2’s began their campaign away to Great Waltham on an unusually hot and sunny Saturday afternoon.
After losing the toss Totham were put in to bat, and after just the 1 early casualty, Dicko and Ant were looking steady. Then came the first of 4 run outs. Dicko, too busy admiring his shot, couldn’t make it back for 2. This left Totham on 48-2
Stu joined Ant, who was looking in great touch, and Totham made steady progress. Then came the collapse. Ant miscued a cut just 2 short of his 50, before Rob bizarrely ran himself out without facing a ball. Wickets continued to fall around Stu (23) as only DQ (12*) made any further contribution. Totham finished on 154/9
Early wickets were required, and DQ duly obliged with a caught behind in the 4th over. Jack Bowen bowled well with no reward but in truth totham lacked options to make regular breakthroughs. Kendall 1-21 bowled well but the Gt Waltham pair were taking no risks against the vintage spinner. Totham didn’t help themselves in the field, Dhanjal (74*) dropped twice in the early stages of the innings, if those chances had been taken it’s a different game. Waltham finally put totham out of their misery in the 40th over leaving Totham with much to improve on over the next week.
