The depleted all stars travelled to Great Wakering this weekend on the back of a comfortable win last week, but missing some key players. Jimmy Hay, Ben Ridge, Harry Banyard joined us from the 3’s and 60 year old Dave Hewer made his first appearance for nearly 20years.
Great Wakering won the toss, batted and from the off we’re hitting boundaries for fun. Bunce (106) and Smith (144), who are clearly far to good for this level, latched on to anything short, wide or overpitched and dispatched it for boundary after boundary. The bowlers did cause them problems, Jonny Hewer and Matt McDonald in particular finding the edge on more than one occasion but to no avail. Jimmy Hay & Joe Davis bowled well and on another day would have received more reward for their efforts, but at least cane away with a wicket each. Once Bunce was bowled by McDonald the wickets kept on tumbling but the damage was done and Wakering finished on 331/8, McDonald 3-66 and Jonny Hewer 2-79 the pick of the bowlers.
The Totham reply got off to the worst possible start with Jonny Hewer bowled round his legs second ball. Dicko and Joe Davis looked fluent and scored quickly until Joe was bowled for 15, sparking a collapse with only some hard hitting from Mcdonald (32) and a very well made 73 from the in-form Dicko making our scorecard respectable.
A disappointing day but we will not come up against many batsmen as good in this division. We go again next week!
