FANTASY CRICKET: Buy/Sell/Captain - Gameweek 2 Preview

7 May 2021

With Gameweek 1 done and dusted, Bullying on a Sunday find themselves at the top of the leaderboard, 35 points ahead of nearest rival BMI Blasters. The best way to summarise this week was that you had to captain Joe Davis. If you didn't, you found yourself at the wrong end of the leaderboard, as Joe posted a whopping 360 points (that's more than Grip it & Rip It CC altogether) for those who gave him the armband following his 100 run weekend. Sam Yeates in 18th was the highest scorer not to have Joe as captain.

Still plenty of weeks to go, and to guide you through it - I've decided to produce a weekly segment called Buy/Sell/Captain, hopefully providing you with some top tips on how to manage your fantasy team! You definitely don't have to listen to me, in some instances I may be completely wrong!

Remember that this week the third team are not playing a league fixture, so this game will NOT count towards your fantasy points! There are 6 players playing 2 games this weekend: Dan Quartermaine, James Wheeler, Ben Ridge, Jack Ridge, Tim Logue & Owen McCausland - how many can you fit into your side? I'm a big advocate of getting as many Double Gameweekers in as possible, so come Saturday morning you'll find all six in my side, even if it means taking a points hit or two.

BUY

Each week, my BUY rating will be given to someone who has ownership of less than 25%, and who I expect to perform well this weekend. For me, it's pretty simple this weekend, with only 12% ownership, off the back of a 4 wicket haul, and he's playing two games this weekend - you've simply got to get Owen McCausland (£5.6m) in your side. Playing a Canvey Island side on Saturday who lost last weekend, and Galleywood on Sunday. Depending on how many beers are consumed Saturday night, there's real potential for Big-O to take a lot of wickets this weekend.

SELL

Fairly simple theory here, each week I'm going to suggest someone who is highly owned but probably shouldn't make your teams this week. These are not (and never will be) indications of what I think of you as a cricketer, and my opinion is purely based on a Fantasy points-scoring perspective! So, with that being said - sell Joe Davis (£7.7m)!

What? You've just bigged him up & said we'd be down the bottom of the table without him!

Get rid! He's not playing either game this weekend & he can't score you any more points from Leeds!

On the bright side, Owen makes a nice straight swap as they're both all-rounders and you'll have money in the bank for any future changes you want to make! Including getting Joe straight back into the team on his return.

Another potential SELL is Ollie Cheeseman (£7m) who took a nasty finger injury in training last night. If he's fit, you may well be rewarded again by sticking with the big Cheese if he can replicate his 53 point haul like last week. However, with DQ (£6m) playing two games this weekend, you might be tempted to make that swap.

CAPTAIN

If last week was a clear choice for Joe (due to his high ownership). This week is anything but, with plenty of good potential options.

Stuart Pearson (£4.1m) topped the batting points on 82 last week following his 52 runs, 2nd XI skipper leading from the front & I would not be surprised to see a repeat performance against Canvey. Harry Cooper (£8.5m) looked his usual dangerous self in the 1st XI blasting 42 from 33 balls - he will also likely have some bowling to do this weekend and we all know why he's sometimes called Golden Arm. James Wheeler (£3.6m) took 5 wickets last weekend and is playing 2 games this week too. According to all reports, he looked the best of the 2s bowlers and there is no reason to suggest that will change this week. Dan Quartermaine had a quiet first week of the season, taking 1 wicket before getting a duck to score only 5 points. As Stand-In Captain of the Sunday side, does he have a point to prove this weekend?

My pick for captain however has already been mentioned. Yes that's right, I'm buying Owen and he's straight into my side as captain. Don't let me down. Will I be triple captaining him? Not this week, think I'll be keeping that chip up my sleeve until the end of the season.

If you'd like to get involved in the competition, you can still sign up! There's still over 18 Gameweeks to go, and you will have plenty of time to score points. Follow this link here, and click create team. Once you've done that, please pay your entry fee to Rob Hewer. If you're struggling on who to pick, read my season preview!
