Rettendon’s pitch was used for the local church fete this weekend, meaning the 2s made the short trip to Terling instead. A beautiful ground, a flat looking deck, and a massive surprise when the opposition captain put us in. He did mentioned several times throughout the game that he got that wrong.
Last seasons player of the year Mutley returned to the all-stars, and opened the batting with Ryan and we made a good start before Ryan nicked behind, bringing Foxy to the crease. When I arrived at the ground I had overheard some opposition players saying they should put us in a knock us over as our batting line up was weak, I imagine they soon changed their mind as Foxy peppered the boundaries at ease and even dented a car parked behind the pavilion in the process. His excellent 115 was the top score, Matt Mcdonald scored his first 50 for the club and other contributions included Mutley 30, Colin 24 and DQ with an enormous 6 from the last ball which would have landed in his dads lap had he not run for cover.
Teas were good, plenty of everything, apart from crisps. A solid 8.
Having 297 on the board does wonders for your confidence, George Davis (3-51) and Matt McDonald (4-24) ripped through the Rettendon top order to leave them 35-6 at one point. We were much improved in the field too, Ryan and George both claiming run outs with sharp boundary fielding, meaning we wrapped up the win with 10 overs to spare.
Tougher challenges lay ahead but this was huge improvement on last week.
