2nd XI v Purleigh 28.07.18

6 Aug 2018

One to forget for the 2s all stars this weekend. A trip to Purleigh on a blustery day and hangovers all round thanks to Stu.

After unsurprisingly losing the toss, the all-stars were inserted to bat and last years player of the year Mutley and Stu waddled to the crease. Roughly 10 minutes later they were both walking back after equally terrible innings, both out nicking behind. Dicko and Phipps rebuilt the innings patiently, with both registering a boundary 6 each, until Phipps chopped on for a well made 31 and he was quickly followed by Nob for 7. John came in and counter attacked, and made Dicko run singles which were both pleasant sights before Dicko’s Boycott-Esqe 19 came to an end. Baron hit a valuable 16 but it was left to John to score the majority of the runs as he finished with 51* from our paltry total of 142 all out.

Teas were interesting. Curry all round - Jimmy Hay had 3 helpings, a large percentage of which ended up on his whites. It made a nice change from Mcdonald's though. Did you know he gets 40% off? 7/10 tea rating.

Baron and Mutley started well, beating the bat and creating a couple of half chances but were were 60runs short of creating and kind of pressure and the Purleigh openers were able to wait for the bad balls and punish them. John Chadwick claimed 2 wickets and Baron a sharp caught and bowled for our only successes, this was not a day to remember.

Star Man - John Chadwick
