Great Wakering visited the 2’s all stars this week, having demolished us in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Nob lost yet another toss and we were asked to field in 25 degree heat, much to the delight of the troops. A hot day was looking like it would be a long, hot day when for the first 2 overs everything the Wakering openers touched went for four runs, not through bad bowling but the new ball and the lightening quick outfield. The Wakering openers, in fact any of their team, were reluctant to runs singles and deal only in boundaries and this brought about our first wicket, Bunce slicing to third man off DQ. This was key as it started the collapse, Matt McDonald claiming 3 wickets including two in two balls, Reverend Hay with two, John Chadders with 3 and the rarely seen Rhino with 1. After a long first 10 overs it all seemed to be over very quickly.
Good, solid tea. Well done Chadwick’s - 7.5
173 was never going to be enough on a good wicket, short boundary and marble outfield. The Pearson’s opened the batting putting on 91, Stu outstayed Chris which leads me to believe there must have been a food related competition going on. Stu’s 74 was a welcome return to form for the man with the 6th best cover drive in the club, and when he perished Snail and Foxy saw the game home with ease.
It’s not often we are in the pub for 5:30pm, especially after a win. Precious points, valuable momentum and confidence all round. Big game next weekend at Purleigh.
